Rolf Dobelli (born in 1966) studied philosophy and economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), where he also attained his PhD.
Rolf Dobelli received his PhD after studying business administration at the University of St. Gallen. He then held leading positions in the economy, such as Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of various subsidiaries of Swissair. In 1999 he and some of his friends founded their own company Get Abstract, which has become the largest provider of compressed economic literature worldwide. He worked for the national air carrier Swissair, launched getAbstract (the world’s largest publisher of compressed business knowledge) and lived in Hong Kong, Australia, England and for many years in the USA. He is also the founder and curator of WORLD.MINDS, a community of the most distinguished personalities from the fields of science, culture and business.

Rolf Dobelli wrote the weekly «Klarer Denken» (Clearer Thinking) column for the German newspapers DIE ZEIT, FAZ and Switzerland’s Sonntagszeitung for two years. He also authored for a year a weekly column for STERN on life questions. He writes regular reviews in The Washington Post. His commentary has appeared, among others, in The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Financial Times, NZZ, Handelsblatt and on CNN.
His novels are published by Diogenes, his non-fiction works by Hanser Publishers. They have been translated into 30 languages and have sold more than a million copies. Rolf Dobelli is a member of the international writers’ association PEN and serves on the advisory board of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce and Life Science Zurich. He does not consume news – with the exception of the publications The New Yorker, Science and Nature. He is however a voracious reader of books.
